Reiner Knizia's Dice Monsters Examine App

Needs one very simple UX improvement

An extremely simple UX improvement is desperately needed. When dragging dice to apply to monster, the game should highlight which monster the dice will be applied to once you lift your finger.

Too luck-based in later levels

Early on bad rolls can be mitigated by good tactics, but later bad rolls kill any successes you have built with no recourse. There are items for mitigation, but they are insufficient to balance out bad luck. You can buy your way out of some problems, but that is not really playing a game, now is it?

Nothing but a money grab

Now I remember why I deleted it. Reloaded it and played for a few days just to be reminded how manipulative the “game” is. Put yourself in a position where you just need anything over a three with four rolls left? Watch the ones and twos suddenly show up. Nothing but a money grab of the worst kind.

Screw this paywall game design

Still... pay for boosters. Cant EARN THEM. So sick of it. Make it a premium game. Fun for a few levels then, pay for "boosts" or lose lose lose.

Good Blend of Strategy & Luck

Create poker-style combinations of 5 dice (three of a kind, full house, straight, highest sum, lowest sum, etc.) by rolling 2 dice and placing them into 1 of 3 groups. Beat the combinations held by different kinds of monsters to win each level. Powerups can modify your dice, and monster abilities can make placing your dice more difficult. There's luck, but players who place their dice strategically will be rewarded. The game builds on ideas developed by designer Reiner Knizia in board games like Battle Line (also an iOS app), Schotten Totten, Los Banditos, and Head-to-Head Poker. The game is good at building an entertaining level of tension as the difficulty increases. The tutorial could use some improvement to clarify the rules.

Funny Game!

In this dice throwing game the object is to defeat all the funny looking monsters while listening too some funky music! I gotta say it does add some excitement when playing roll the dice.

Awesome

This is great

Thanks

It is very good amusing game, you can be addicted to it. You may take few minutes to understand how to play this game, I advise you to follow instructions and be patient because it has little slow explanation. Thanks for this new kind of games, I enjoyed it a lot.

interesting game

The game is unique in it's own way but also all the in app purchases are quite annoying but you might find yourself needing

Best dice app

This is the best dice app.. Challenging and fun

Funny

Really interesting game to play! Once my girl understands the rules, it's so addictive and killed lots of her leisure time even she was a little bit scared of these dice monsters and music. Cool interface and well-designed monsters images! Like it!

great

This is a nice game, it is good for killing time. It is pretty simple and you get used to it quickly. I had fun playing it.

This game is so fun, my kid loves it so much. The interface is really nice with all the colours. It is easy to play too and it's addicting. The game is simple and children will love it.

I love to play this game

Really serves me well when I'm in depression. I play this game regularly good graphics sounds etc.

Surprisingly addicting!

Downloaded this game just to check it out. Opened it, next thing I knew I couldn't put my phone down because of how addicting the gameplay is. This game is great and visually pleasing. Highly recommend it.

Good, but

it really need a better tutorial

good

This is a pretty fun little dice game. The artwork is nicely done, as is the interface. It does take a bit to get used to the gameplay, so I would not recommend for young children.

Pretty fun!

The monster creatures are cute and crazy, I love this game! It's easy to play, interesting to learn and no trouble keeping you entertained. Overall I really like it and recommend to others!!

Fun game

This game is quite fun to play. The user interface and game design are are user friendly and quite catchy. The background music fits the game perfectly. The gameplay itself is quite fun. However, the instructions are too short and a bit vague. It should be explained in more detailed manner so that players are able to fully understand how to play the game to reach its maximum enjoyment in the game. Also, I believe the game should be included some special effects to make the game even more exciting.

Nice game...!!!

Hey guys this game is ao good i love it.i also suggest this game to my friends...!!!

Yahtzee with an RK spin.

Leave it to RK to take some of the classic mechanics of Yahtzee but give them and all new spin and depth. I initially lamented that it was one of those freemium games (free to play but with annoying ads and limited lives unless your willing to wait several hours or pay to restore them), but now rejoice that they've added options to get rid of both the limited lives and ads for a one time fee.

sync cross devices

how to restore the current progress cross devices?

Fun is ruined by IAP

Same developer strategy as other IAP games like Peggle Blast. Start the player off easy, get them addicted, then ramp up the difficulty a lot and hope they buy IAPs to avoid losing. I'm tired of this model. I will play this until I get sick of the game pretending like skill matters, while in reality power ups are the only real way to beat it.

W2P- Wait to play, after I've paid?

This would be a great title, with some interesting dice play based on increasingly difficult thresholds to meet, but the developer has decided to implement an egregiously bad pay model that prevents me from actually playing the game, even after I've already paid $2 into it. After playing a few levels, I was happy enough with the gameplay to gladly pay the $2 to remove the occasional ad breaks. Okay fine... I don't expect games to be free, and $2 seemed about right for a light dice game of this type, and comparable with other Reiner Knizia dice games, which I've enjoyed. Even $3-4 would be fine considering the quality of the presentation, which is very nice. But then, you discover that there is another wall in the game regarding "lives," of which you only have so many that you can lose from level failures before the game will make you wait before you can play it again (or pay another $1 each time to refill those lives, which can be depleted very quickly - I'm looking at you, Winter level 37). So now, because it would be absurd for this to end up being a $20+ game (I've already had to wait 10+ times for that level 37 to refill my lives), I refuse to pay anything more for this and thus must wait each time to play a game that I've already paid for. How absurd is it to create a game that inspires people to want to continue to play it, and then deny them that opportunity?! There are also offers for people to buy certain power up abilities... That's fine. I still won't do it, but I can appreciate that some might want to opt for that, and in that case, it is their choice and not going to prevent them from actually playing. If the lives thing would be tied to a particular level, so you could keep playing earlier levels to try to build yourself up, that would be acceptable. But that's not the case... You are simply shut out from playing, period. Change that model and this would likely be a 5 star app for me.
